Inner Demons

First of all, thank you so much for having me here today and being part of my Temptation by Fire tour!

There’s a little demon in all of us.

No, no. Not an actual tiny demon (I hope—wait, you don’t have one actually living on your shoulder, right?). But we all have within us a little bit of bad. A tiny voice inside our heads that whispers negative things in our ears. Tells us to do bad things. Encourages us to eat that last piece of pie. (Yes, I’m totally blaming all of my pie-eating tendencies on demons.)

The hero of my latest book, Temptation by Fire, doesn’t have a tiny demon living in him, either—although that’s kind of an interesting concept for a horror novel or something. What Karson does have is symbols tattooed on his body that give him the power to fight demons. And these tattoos are powered by demon blood, which is added to the tattoo ink.

Like anything that gives power, the demon blood also has a cost. It pushes Karson and other demon hunters like him to the brink by fueling their more negative, violent emotions. It causes them to have just a little edge of bad, and the more powerful they become by adding symbols to their bodies, the more difficult it can be to battle the negative urges brought on by the piece of demon they carry in their skin.

Now, outside of fiction we don’t have to deal with this level of craziness. But there’s definitely a little demon inside of each of us. I don’t know about you, but I wish the bad in me would give me some extra strength and speed, instead of just constantly demanding pie. J

She writes about ass-kicking heroines and the strong heroes who love them.
